About us
For six generations, our family has been caring for bereaved families across West Sussex. We feel proud and privileged that we’re still asked to help so many people during their saddest and most difficult times.
Our family, caring for yours
Our motto is ‘our family caring for yours’. For six generations, that care has woven through everything we do. Every member of our team works tirelessly to take the weight of funeral planning off your shoulders and to make a sad time more bearable.
Thank you for considering Reynolds to care for you and your loved ones. If you choose to put your trust in us, we promise we’ll do everything possible to help make planning a funeral a little easier for you.
We do things properly
The way funerals are delivered has changed over the years, but there are some things we refuse to compromise on. Respect and dignity weave through everything we do. We don’t cut corners and we will always care for your loved one as we would for a member of our own family.
We’re proud members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors. It means we hold ourselves to the highest levels of respect, dignity, care and compassion.
We don’t believe funerals should follow a set formula
Each person is unique, and their funeral should be too. We go out of our way to arrange the touches that make the funeral as individual as the person it’s for.
We’re with you for the long haul
Our support doesn’t end when the funeral does. There’s often much to do and process afterwards. Just as we’re here for you and your family in the planning process, we’re here for you afterwards too – it’s why we often care for several generations of the same family.
We’ve been caring for bereaved families for more than 150 years
In 1867, after completing an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, our founder, Samuel Reynolds, arrived in Bognor. The town was growing rapidly and cabinet makers were in high demand.
As was common at the time, people who made furniture would almost naturally become involved in the local community as funeral service providers – if you made cabinets, you made coffins.
As Samuel’s reputation for quality and service grew, the business prospered. After Samuel’s death, his wife Eliza continued to run the business with their sons, including their eldest, Charles, who believed everybody should have a decent funeral regardless of wealth, and often did funerals for nothing.
Six generations later, those values still form the foundation for Reynolds today. From Samuel’s small shop, Reynolds has grown to become the longest running family business in Bognor Regis. We still have our furniture store, offer self-storage at the Depository in Bognor Regis, and our funeral service now cares for families in Bognor Regis, Chichester and Littlehampton.
You can read more about the Reynolds family history in our 150 year anniversary booklet.
